Home Field Advantage

One of the most important factors that a sports bettor should consider when it comes to making an informed decision is home field advantage. In general, teams tend to play better at home than they do on the road. This is also beneficial for NFL betting.

In the US, there’s no other sport where home field is less important than it is in football. For instance, in major league sports, home field is not as important as it is in the NFL. While it’s not to say that teams don’t win more at home, it’s less significant in terms of a sports bettor’s perspective.

According to lines makers, a team’s home field advantage is typically valued at 3.5 points. This means that a team that plays at home against an equally matched opponent will likely be a -3 favorite. While the true importance of home field advantage varies depending on the team, the point spread implications of this advantage are much more common in the NFL.

Over the course of twenty years, I’ve been a professional football handicapper. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a game where my objective analysis and statistical knowledge of the game were not considered when it comes to the home and away games of the teams.

Although home field advantage is important, it’s not the sole reason why a team plays its games at home. There are various factors that a sports bettor should consider when it comes to making an informed decision.

One of the most important factors that a sports bettor should consider when it comes to making an informed decision is home field advantage. Although some experts make a big deal about the type of surface that a team is playing on, the advantage that some teams have over others is more pronounced in college. More recently, some of these same experts have also become certified grounds keeping experts for various types of artificial surfaces.

In theory, teams with better team speed are more likely to benefit from playing on artificial surfaces. However, this is not the case for every position in the league. For instance, at the positions where speed is most important, most players in the league have the necessary skills to excel on natural grass.

Travel: One of the most important factors that a sports bettor should consider when it comes to making an informed decision is home field advantage. This is because it allows a team to focus on its task at hand instead of worrying about the logistics of traveling. This has nothing to do with the type of venue or the scheduling process.

Team Characteristics: Understanding the individual team characteristics of each team will allow you to make an informed decision regarding the home and away games of the teams. The reality is that, while good teams can win on the road, bad teams can lose at home. The teams that are trying to move into the upper echelon of the league are typically the ones that have a significant home/road performance differential.

Despite the importance of home field advantage, it’s still not the absolute best decision that a sports bettor can make when it comes to making an informed decision. There are some exceptions, and especially from a point spread perspective, it can still go either way.
